Shillong Teer is a local game that is played in the Khasi Hills Archery Sports Institute that requires shooting archers by about 30-50 players at a single goal. When all arrows have been hit by the target, they will be counted, and the final two digits can be declared the outcome for the entire day. If, for instance, 1020 arrows are hit by the target, then 20 will be declared the result.

There are two rounds of shooting each day, excluding Sunday. 1. Round (FR) begins at 3:45 pm and ends at 3:45 PM, when the results are announced e.g. 20. 2. The second round (SR) begins at 4:45 PM and will end at 4:45 PM, after which the 2nd round payoff are declared.

Teer is a legally-regulated game which is governed by Meghalaya Amusement and Betting Tax (Amendment) Act, 1982. The winner isn’t determined through a chance draw of tickets, instead, the winner is determined by the number of “Teers” (arrows) which hit the desired target.

The local authorities say that around of 5,000 Teer bookies/counters are operating in Meghalaya with around 1500 counters located in Shillong. Gamblers can make a bet of one rupee to up to 500 rupees to win up to 80 rupees each .

The game is run in the name of Khasi Hills Archery Sports Association that is a consortium comprised of 12 clubs located in Assam locality. It is located at Themmarwet close to Khanapara, Ri Bhoi district, Meghalaya.
